I'd say stay as is. Being an omnisoldier WILL make you more adaptable, but it also makes you weaker. It's not good to be a jack of all trades but a master of none. I suggest you read "The Logi Code". It's an excellent guide to starting Logistics that I couldn't suggest enough. :D

REs are definitely fun, yea, but let me give you my honest opinion.
Each Logistics in 1.8 will be good at their different roles, and other roles that they accidentally fill. But above all others, for just Logistics work, the Caldari will be the most well-rounded and helpful Logistics, given that your teammates aren't complete fools.
The Minmatar MAY have a Repair Tool bonus, but it's ONLY a Repair Tool. What is a M-Logi going to fit? 4 Repair Tools? No. But if you do otherwise, you're only reaching max effectiveness on the field 1/4th of the time (assuming you use all equipment equally). It'll be a good Heavy-Hugger, and during a siege it will definitely be the most helpful. But looking at the Caldari, it just won't be as good.
The Minmatar only has a bonus to repairing armor. And people, I feel, have looked at the Caldari and said "Oh, a resupply bonus? Laaaame". The bonus doesn't say Resupply. It says Nanohives. There are Triage Nanohives. It'll be the most well-rounded logistics because it has rep bonuses AS WELL AS resupply bonuses. And of course, it's not a bonus that's like "Repairs More Every Cycle", so it's not a Rep Bonus as straight-forward as the Minmatar's, but it DOES say it has a resupply rate bonus (this counts Armor Repairing cycle time), which means it might not repair more per cycle, but it repairs faster by increasing the rate of repair. Again, in any moving activity, the Caldari Logistics won't be as useful, as Nanohives are obviously stationary, however in a still firefight, a Caldari Logistics can go a long way towards keeping your team alive and well-fed with ammunition. Just something to consider there. An all-rep fit is terrible, but no one ever laughs at an all-hive fit (until you need to revive, but just fit a Nanite Injector and you're good to go).
The Gallente is being designed as an E-War Logistics. I like this, kind of, but at the same time I feel like a Scanner would better be used on a Scout. But that's another discussion for another day. Right now, Quantum Scanners OR Focused Scanners on that G-Logi. Because the Gallente Logistics has 4 Equipment Slots (everyone else has 3 except the Minmatar), it can fit all of its Triage Equipment ALONG WITH a Scanner (a fit I already use). Also, with the upcoming nerf to Active Scanners, Gallente Logistics will be the only one to use them even close to 1.7 levels. It's also keeping it's bonus from 1.7 (but it's being moved to the Role Bonus), meaning it's not being hit as hard with the nerf bat, in terms of bonuses. Everyone lost passive reps and a racial bonus, the Gallente only lost passive reps, and is sharing its racial with everyone else.
Amarr is going to be, undoubtedly, the best sniper. It has a sidearm, bonuses to uplinks, and has 3 Equipment Slots, meaning Uplinks, Rep Hive, Standard Hive. Of course, you COULD use it for placing valuable spawn points in highly-valued tactical locations, so your teammates can spawn in and hit the enemy where it hurts. But who needs that when you can use a Thale's? :D

That is not correct. I have Caldari Assault Level 1 (noting I'm Gallente), and I still get a 5% Shield Bonus. :D
